America votes for its head of state.We always knew Charles would be King one day and he has been preparing for his role since he was a boy.America keeps it’s head of state for five years if they decide they don’t like him and maybe longer if his policies are acceptable but even 10 years doesn’t seem very long.Our Queen promised to serve us until she died and did so for 70 years and was working up to two days before her death.The American way seems so temporary somehow.I will be travelling to London tomorrow and stand in a crowd of what I know will be tens of thousands of people in The Mall to pay my final respects to my Queen,let her go and accept Charles is king.Seeing the coffin will make things final so I need to go to the funeral tomorrow.I am not sure if Americans feel this way about their head’s of state,and do they attend their funerals after they have left office because the people voted for someone else.I know they attend if the president does in office the people pay their respects but will Donald Trump or George Bush have lines of people clapping him,or the ear shattering silence as his coffin passes by.There will probably be a million people there tomorrow.One million out of 64 million,which is a lot and probably would be more if people could travel that far.I think when America loses a President by voting for someone else it is like us voting in a new Prime Minister but losing our Queen goes beyond that.I watch TV coverage of what is happening in London,the line of people,the walk about by the Royal family when they must be breaking inside,and the interviews of people who just happen to be around at the time and I am happily surprised to see a lot of Americans made the journey to join us.All nationalities are here in the UK to pay their respects.perhaps we have something very special here in my country and I think perhaps we didn’t quite know how special until our Queen died.Got to go,train ticket to buy, trousers and shirt to iron.See you there tomorrow.
